One of the biggest crowd pleasing shots in golf is the flop shot. Launching the ball high and landing the ball softly on the green is one of the most exciting, but dangerous shots in golf to pull off.
It takes great confidence and to pull off this shot and there is much practice that needs to be performed before you attempt the flop shot.
The 1st thing that is needed is a clean lie as you want to ensure the club can slide under the ball easily with little resistance from rough grass. Next you need to set the body in a way that will allow you to make a shallow angle of attack in to the ball. You need to align the body fairly square to the target with a stance width similar to that of a bunker shot. The clubface should be open to the right at the address position with low hands and the ball positioned slightly forward of center in the stance with weight distributed equally even through the feet 50- 50%.

The technique itself demands that you must keep the clubface open through the swing, similar to that in the bunker shot and crucially keeping it open through the impact striking area. A soft pair of hands will assist you in swinging the club at a leisurely pace and you should feel that your backswing is long and languid (not short and choppy). The player should let the arms control the motion and sense that your hands are dead as you slide them under the ball. The club will swing on a fairly neutral path that swings slightly towards target with a shallow approach that will help pop the ball up in the air and land it softly on the green.
